6 Powerful Ways to Make Money On Your Blog

Friday 7 February 2014

I’ve seen people start their blogs with so much enthusiasm, but months after, the drive is all gone; they thought they would start making money as soon as they started their blogging adventure, but they had another thing coming… Yes, you could start making money from the very 1st month if you know what you are doing… that’s exactly why I wrote this blog post to teach you what you need to do to start making money on your blog quickly, no need to re-invent the wheel.
  1. Collect Leads and Build a Relationship with your Subscribers
I’m an easy going guy but permit me to be frank and firm with you, maybe I’ll be able to drive home the message… if you are not collecting leads on your blog, you are wasting your time and money, period; in fact, as one blogger puts it, you are a suicidal blogger (no disrespect intended), I just want you to see the seriousness of the matter; you can’t make money or enough money without it.
What is a Lead? A lead is created when a blog visitor subscribes to any of the opt-ins on your blog, this is done by entering his name and email address in exchange for your content, and this could be in form of an ebook, whitepaper, report, video or an article.
What is an Opt-in? An opt-in is a form created and placed on your blog for the purpose of collecting leads (name and email addresses). If you don’t have an email list, you are on a very long thing; you’ll only depend on the mercies of your blog visitors to return to your blog…what If they don’t return? What if they come only once a month? Is that what you want?

If you don’t have an email list, you’ll have to keep advertising to the same crowd every single time and this will reduce the way you make money online… let me give you a scenario here; if you advertised your product or blog on facebook and you have 1000 people clicking on that ad and facebook is charging you $0.50 per click… you would have paid facebook $500; now are you aware that only 2% or less of the people that clicked on that your ad will buy your product? That is only 20 people out of 1,000 people if you are very smart… the implication is that, you didn’t actually pay $0.50 per click, you paid $500 divided by the 20 people that bought your product which is $25…so you paid $25 per click, can you see how you have been throwing away money on advertising? Or how you are preparing to start throwing money away for those of you that are gearing up to start running online advertising.

A Better Way Of Doing it.Instead of running an ad to your blog/website or facebook home page, run that ad to a free and valuable offer; for instance, an Internet Marketer like me could run an offer advertising a free ebook on how to make money online, a software developer could run an offer for a 30days free access to his software, a fashion blogger could run an offer to a free fashion magazine/tips, an entertainment blogger could run an offer of free tickets to a high profile event; you get the gist? Basically this kind of offers will generate more clicks and will easily go viral and more so they can only access it when they have given you their names and email addresses.

You can have up to 50% conversion that is added to your email list, compared to only 2% conversion who you can’t even contact in any way. If you use this strategy repeatedly, you can very easily build up your email list to the thousands.

What do I do with an Email List?Imagine that you have an email list of 2,000 people; these are people you can send an email to check out your recent blog post and in a matter of minutes your blog is buzzing with traffic; these are people that you can email your products/services to and you’d make money by driving some sales even without advertising…Let me tell you this is where the boys are separated from the men.

How to Make an Email List Work Effectively for You Because you have access to thousands of people does not give you the right to send them emails arbitrarily, they will unsubscribe from your list if you do this; also your emails must not be about advertising your products every time, remember they subscribed because you offered them something free, you must continue to offer them valuable contents (freemium) in your niche, it is this relationship you are building with them that will make them to respond favorably to your products/services when you do eventually make the offer…the rule of thumb is 80% informational contents and 20% promotional contents; do this and you should be fine.
  2) Survey your Subscribers to know exactly what they Need

You should make it a habit to always survey your subscribers to know what kind of contents they need from you, what their biggest challenges are and how you can help; this will help you to come up with contents, product/services that will resonate with your audience…failure to do this might put you in a position where you consistently come up with stuffs your subscribers are not interested in, you’ll be losing money and your unsubscribe rate will soar… treat your subscribers as kings because they truly are.
 3) Build Trust by Providing your Subscribers Valuable Contents
Be genuine in your contents as subscribers can see through your contents to know if you really want to help or you are only after selling your products/services; when you truly teach and educate your subscribers they will build a bond with you and will attack your products/services with patronage and will even become your ambassadors (just that this time, they are not paid)… so give first and then you’ll have in abundance.
 4) Create a Product/Service and sell to your Subscribers
Now see the balance here: If you have a product/service without an audience (subscribers), that means you have a solution without a problem; and if you have an audience (subscribers) without a product/service, that means you have a hobby and not a business.

But why will you be spending money every month to maintain your blog only to use it as a hobby and not make money when it has unlimited money making potentials? Does it make sense? – You be the judge.

Most bloggers look up to advertising alone to make money from their blogs, the odd thing about that model is that online advertising only begins to pay anything meaningful when you have a lot of blog visitors; not many bloggers have the patience and money to build their blog to that level before they start to generate real money… so the average blogger can’t afford that business model and I don’t recommend it anyways because even if you generate 10 Million unique visits/month in your blog and advertising is the only way you are making money, then you have no idea what Internet Marketing is about, you’ll almost cry if I tell you how much you are literally leaving on the table each month…enough said.

A lot of bloggers say, but I don’t know what to produce and I don’t know what to offer on my blog to make money… No Excuses, Just Results; Let me help you with some ideation:

  • Recommend other people’s products for a commission; it’s called Affiliate Marketing.
  • Help offline companies sell their products online for a commission
  • Create and sell your own products like (eBooks-PDF, Video and Podcast).
  • Create trainings and how-to-manuals for other people’s products
  • Start providing a service that your subscribers need and you are good at
  • You can start a copyrighting service (getting paid to provide contents for corporate and personal blogs)
  • Create a membership driven platform/club where you offer exclusive contents for a monthly/annual membership fee
  •  Start organizing/speaking at seminars, Meet-ups, boot camps etc

You should be able to take one or more ideas from the list above and run with it and make money (pls send me your testimonials- I want to hear them); basically, think outside of the box and monetize something you are already good at… and hey, you are definitely good at something, just look inwards, except you are not a child of God, but if you are, then you are good at something because God doesn’t have any useless child… Go Brainstorming and don’t stop until you come up with an idea you can monetize on your blog.
      5) Recommend Somebody else’s product/service for a commission
If for any reason you think the time is not right for you to create your own product/service, then you could promote somebody else’s product an earn a commission for every sale made through your referrer (this is called Affiliate Marketing); this way you can make money for yourself, gain more confidence, establish your brand and save up money to create your own product/service. You can start by recommending my product for 15% commission

           6) Create an Affiliate Program for your Digital Product/Service
This procedure entails creating an affiliate program for your product/service so that interested bloggers can help you market your product/service for a commission; imagine if 20 bloggers with a monthly unique visitors of 20,000 markets your product/service, that will mean that your product/service will get seen by at least 400,000 people…do you see the power of affiliate marketing?

Now, if you don’t know how to set this up and you have a digital product/service you’d like to sell; then send me an email and I’ll help you out with it (for a small fee, of course-but I know you wouldn't mind paying me because I will be adding superior value to you).

There you've got it- 6 powerful ways to start making money on your Blog.

Action Plan: Knowledge without action is useless; so I want to encourage you to go through #4 and pick a money making source that you are going to develop… In the comment area, tell me which of the ideas seem more feasible to you and what is your biggest barrier to making money online? I’ll respond to your comments.
Remember…No Excuses, Just Results
